Welfare
continued their impressive pre-season build up but despite the score line were given probably their toughest test to date,
the Cymru Alliance Welsh League visitors being very much in the game until the last half hour, when taking advantage of their
overall fitness and class, coupled with the tiring of the visitors, Welfare finished with a spate of scoring.
When home
captain Paul Mattison was caught in a ‘friendly’ mood to be robbed by Endaf Jones Town went ahead on eight minutes,
a deflection by Rob Marsh-Evans leaving home keeper Carl Codd flatfooted.
Welfare
came back strongly to besiege the visitors goal and it was no surprise when they levelled, a superb right side cross from
Carl Ward being turned in by Mark Newton.
The sides
resumed for the second period on level terms and remained so until the nimble feet of Danny King put the home men ahead on
75 minutes and from then on Town appeared to crumble, Welfare being allowed to knock the ball about and score further goals
almost at will through Carl Ward 77, Ricky Bennett 83, Gareth Liversedge 85 and Paul Mattison 87
